took the next step and bought a dji phantom quad copter, is anyone else playing with the photography aspect of these things? Crashed mine in a river yesterday but going to fix it and get back on the horse "copter" so to speak.

They look like fun, have not bought one, but linger long at the displays in the shops. Sooner or later it might happen. A new dimension to photography.

Like many new(ish) tech, the first few years will see exponential growth in features and quality, each year they are better.

Ouch on the river Crash!!! How did you do that??? I got one a couple weeks ago and still learning. I am enjoying it immensely!! I picked up the Standard Phantom 3. As I get better at flying and operating the cameras, I plan to do some video work with it.

I have documented my journey on Nikonites, check it out at my thread here... Tells how I went about approaching learning etc. You may get something out of it. I also give a short review of Healthydrones.com that you may also find useful.

Good luck and Enjoy!

Here in Europe they are classed as a pain in the...... with some countries banning them. The Dutch authorities have got so fed up with complaints with regard to invasion of privacy that they have trained eagles to pluck them out of the sky. In france if you are filming anything other than your private dwelling you need a permit and have to take a flying test all costing approx 4,000€

I have seen many of these issues... and believe it is a shame. I also suspect some of that is from the "pilots" who show no respect for other people and/or their property and privacy. I am glad that it is not that way here (yet)!!

I also tend to be safe, respectful and try not to infringe on the rights of others... Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I was practicing flying a box pattern, it drifted to the right, hit a branch and dropped into the water.

Just the stock camera, I put a 32gb card in it. Ordered a new main circuit board, waiting for it to get in. It toasted a battery but have a 2nd. I am hoping the other boxes are ok and not shorted.

I only have an 8GB so need to get a bigger one ordered (filled the 8 today 1/2 way into my flight)

The Heavenly drone site will not work on the P2, only the P3 and Inspire, sorry.

Drop the resolution of your video. Do you really need 4k just for putzin' around? Would 2k work, or even 1080p?
