Leave battery in charger?

Hi All. I have the standard Nikon MH-24 charger that came with my D5500. I have one spare battery pack, an EN-EL14a, so naturally I leave one battery in the camera and one in my gadget bag.

My question is, is it ok to leave the spare battery sitting in the charger in my gadget bag after it has charged up and been unplugged? Or will the battery drain if I leave it in the charger? Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I had no trouble when I did it! But I found a good pocket in my bag, so I no longer do that! I don't remember how long I left the battery pack in that charger, so I'm unsure of any long term effects it might cause to battery life though.

Welcome to the forum, never thought about it as i dont do it i wonder though do you have a reason to carry the charger in your bag if you have two battery's.

I don't think I would leave the battery in the charged unless it was plugged in and charging. The batteries come with a plastic cap when you buy them. I have two cameras and 6 batteries. My system works pretty good. Battery in each camera and 3 spares. Fresh fully charged spares have the cap on and are in the camera case ready to go. While out shooting if I change batteries the spent battery goes back in the case with no plastic cap. As soon as I get home all batteries that are used at all go on the chargers at home and a fresh battery goes in the camera right then so it is ready to shoot the next time I go shoot. I will go by the charging station by my photo closet on occasions and when I do I will look at the chargers and if there is a battery in the charger and it is charged I will pull it and put the plastic cap on it and put it in the Camera case. If I still have used batteries I will put them in the charger and charge them.

Now don't ask me why I would not leave the battery in the charger when it was not plugged in. I just have a feeling that it is not a good idea. I would be afraid it might discharge.

That's a fair question. For a day trip, there's no need to take the charger. But if I'm going on a 2-week holiday, for example, then if my charger is always in my gadget bag, I know I won't forget it.

Thanks for the welcome, btw!
