Travel Tripod

Been finding the need for a very small travel tripod. I really want one that can be stored and carried in my back back while walking around. I foiund this one that looks like it might fill the bill.

Amazon.com : Dolica TX570DS Ultra Compact Tripod with Professional Ball Head and Built-In Monopod (Black) : Electronics

I have a full size Dolica now and have been very happy with it but it is really just to big to haul around.

Anyone have any experience with this tripod. This is also a price point I can live with so no suggesting anything that is more than this please.

there are a lot of asian tripods being offered that are excellent for the price.

on a facebook group there are many that also bought one of these two. there are a lot of different travel tripods.

Selens 62" Tripod & Monopod T-170 For Photo & Video FOR Canon Camera w/ ballhead

Q666C Portable Travel Pro Carbon Fiber Tripod Monopod Ball Head for DSLR Camera | eBay

but the one you linked is excellent as well. the day where you had to compromise and either buy a brand name and cough up huge sums or buy asian and really suffer with quality is over. completely over.

in fact these big companies are going down because the economy is so bad and people have excellent alternatives.

photoflex closed shop. metz is on its last breath and pocket wizard is bringing up the rear. our hard earned money buys a lot today.

This sounds like something I should have for my vacation trip later this year. Knowing nothing about tripods, does the camera attach to the tripod direct of is there another unit that fits between it and the tripod head?

The aluminum models are $179, but I hear ya. I like that it also converts to a monopod, so a secondary use for me, but definitely not for everyone.

I have a Dolica now and have been very happy with it. The one I link is rated for more than I will ever put on it. Also any time I am in a iffy situation I generally leave the camera strap on and around my neck. that way if the tripod falls the camera does not go anywhere. The Dolica TX570DS has a max Load of 15 lbs so more than enough to handle my D7100 even with the 70-300 on it.

im either shooting with it, or its not mounted. but it will never sit on a tripod if im not clicking the shutter. Ill simply remove it and rest it on top of my bag till im ready. I never trust the camera on the tripod ever. no tripod. $50 or $500. the tripod isnt the problem. its either someone will knock it over or a gust of wind will come out of nowhere. carbon fiber/aluminum/price. it makes no difference.

About 26 years ago I had an Olympus OM2n with a motor winder. Pretty slick back that long ago. I had it sitting on a tripod in my home studio and my 4 year old son came running through the room. Down goes the tripod and camera. Lucky the only thing that broke was the motor winder. It popped in half with part on the camera and the rest on the tripod. Probably saved the camera from damage. I still have the camera and the lesson learned has stuck with me all the years. Tripods are a necessary evil but yes, I do not trust them. Strap around my neck while the camera is on a tripod especially outside.

exactly. tripods are to be used ONLY when youre shooting, then the camera is off. it could have been worse. OM2n are tanks. you lucked out

even the crappiest tripod can hold gear or be stable on its own. but there are other factors to consider. tripods are not for showcasing a camera. its a tool for stability. I shoot, I used, I take it off right after.
