has anyone seen one of these before..

Mikroskop-za-pole-Klinika3.jpg

it's a Carl Zeiss dental microscope that Endodontists use for root canals (yes i had a root canal Fri). anyway when i first sat down in the chair, the microscope was set in it's unused position. looking closely i noticed what looked like a standard camera body but wasn't sure because i thought it might be a specially made camera just for the microscope. it did however have a threaded inlet for a tripod head to screw into and a compartment for a battery at the bottom and an opening on the side for the remote or usb connection. later when the doctor started working and the microscope was in place, i saw the front of the camera clearly - a Nikon D5200. just thought it was interesting. apparently they can take pictures of the area of the mouth/tooth the scope is looking at using a remote.

My dentist has the same scope, or one similar, but I haven't seen the DSLR extension - I wonder if it's an optional accessory. However, my dentist can display what he's seeing on a monitor mounted in the wall of his office (just what I want to watch). So maybe the connection for the camera is there, but a different type of camera is mounted on it, and I haven't noticed it. I'm usually NOT thinking about photography when I go there. :(
