Oh boy, a $35 hotshoe cover to lose! Wasn't it just a few months back that someone got high blood pressure for not getting a plastic one with their new camera? Funny how Nikon does that, but is now trying to flog $35 pieces of cheap monkey metal to you. Camera companies will never cease to amaze me, LMAO

Not just camera companies. It's the whole ding-dang consumer market!

In regards to price, it is no more ridiculous then the branded lens hood for my X10. If you want the "original" Fuji one, you will have to fork out around $50. Now, look at it (you can google LH-X10) and tell me if that is worth $50?? I got wise and bought mine for $10 from Hong Kong. Probably the same hood, from the same factory, without the Fuji name on it, lol.

You mean like how Nikon sells the HB-69 lens hood (for the ubiquitous 18-55mm VRII "kit" lens) for $25 while knock-offs can be had for less than $5?
Don't eeeeven get me started on Nikon charging $485 (!!) for the MB-D16 battery grip.

Agreed.
I will say, my dad bought a knock-off hood for his lens, cracked within weeks. A Nikon OEM hood is on the way.

I also found it strange a Nikon OEM D7100 grip costs about 25% of the price of the body. Such is marketing I guess :(

Little items like that are for people with more money than brains, IMHO! Nothing wrong with the plastic one...if you even have to have one! lol I personally don't care for them. Just something else to lose. And don't even get me started on the prices of plastic lens hoods from Nikon!

No I feel that is more along the lines of "Piece of mind". If people complain about how cheap a plastic battery grip feels, it pushes people to look for a body like what Nikon produces to get that substantial feel.

While I agree with the idea, the OEM grips are over priced IMO.
