When I bought mt Nikon D5100 I got a filter after few month as well for my Kit Lens 18-55 The filter is a HOYA 52mm PL-CIR Slim Circular Polarizing Filter. Just figured it out that the filtersize is as same as th efiltersize from my Nikon 40mm f/2.8 G DX Micro-NIKKOR.
Now I can use a second filter. I am so happy.

Yes, this filter stays for sure on the 40mm 2.8 lens.
