Rain cover for camera bag?

Hi All,

I'm looking at buying a camera bag, similar in style to a lowepro AW 55 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Case-Logic-Compact-protection-Hammock/dp/B001TZUS98/ref=pd_cp_ph_0) but it doesn't come with an in built rain cover which is a bit of a draw back.

I'd have thought it would be easy to come across a separate rain cover for a camera bag but it seems not. Does anyone know where I can get one, or if anyone makes them, if so who? As I'm in the England, UK retailers are what I'm looking for but any help from abroad would be welcome. I don't want to have to spend more than a few quid on one, any more and I might as well fork out for a more expensive bag in the first place.

Before I got my AW 55 I just carried a plastic bag big enough to protect my gear in the event of rain. You can't get the AW 55 in the UK?

I have a similar size bag for my work camera. I stuff a 13 gallon garbage bag in one of the pockets. Of course, we don't usually plan on working when there is a chance of rain and in the last five years, I've only been caught in the rain one time.

Other thought is a disposable lightweight poncho to cover the gear and the photographer.

Both say "Built In Raincover. The second "In The Box" tab specifies it includes a rain cover.

Can you look at one in a store? Sounds like the cover is attached, not removable, but pulls out as a wrap around cover?

On the Aw 55 the rain cover is attached to the bag. it's stored in a opening on the bottom of the bag. I can take a picture of it tonight when I get home if you like.

I carry a large plastic bag also. Then I put the wrapped camera bag in an insulated bag from the supermarket. It all fits it my bicycle basket.

Like others, I often use a trash bag, but have taken to using one of my old Army ponchos as well because it has several draw strings I can use to cinch it tight over the bag. Since thunderstorms during this time of year in FL can happen at any moment, and quite often do, I keep the poncho with me because it can keep both me and the gear dry with it. It is as the saying goes around here, "if you don't like the weather, give it a few minutes, it will change".

You really do not need to get really fancy with it, whatever keeps it dry will work just fine.

He's buying a bag similar in style to the AW55, not the AW55 itself... :)

As for the portable rain cover, a nice small trash bag will fit in very tiny places until needed! You can also search Amazon (or other places) for backpack rain covers. There are a few universal ones that should do the trick.

Thanks for all the advice and sorry for not replying sooner, busy day. Think I'll go with the plastic bag option and keep an eye out for anything better like a small rucksack cover. Seems odd that you can't just buy a purpose built rain cover considering such a thing exists attached to many bags.
