How painful jpeg can be.

A friend of mine is in Alaska. She is taking pictures with her Nikon point and shoot. I'm in no way knocking a person for having a point and shoot or shooting in jpeg, but after years of working with raw it is so DIFFICULT to work with a jpeg image. So much missing due to the compression it seems like most of my normal workflow just destroys the image when I'm trying to process her images. Painful I tell you!

I would never tell her to change or upgrade her camera. For her needs this camera works. But for me... I want to just gouge my own eyes out with the blunt end of a broom handle. Years of working in raw makes it hard to go back.

I can breathe after my short rant.

I understand your frustration, when i use my P900 it can only shoot jpeg and it needs to be at least 90% right SOOC,mind you i do think that Nikon and probably others have got these cameras producing great jpegs for what most users want.

Agreed. I think I'm trying to squeeze Porsche performance out of a VW. Sure some VW's can be great and fast, but in the end they are not Porsche's.

True, but Porsches are hardly VW's and Corvettes are hardly Chevy's. It's like calling the Patriot a Jeep just because it says Jeep. My Jeep, IS a Jeep and not merely a name plate that reads Trail Rated. LOL

They both say Jeep....

But one IS a Jeep and the other simply has a name tag of Jeep.

Sorry. That's what i meant with my reply. Having said that, I would still take the silver Jeep over that rock climbing contraption.;)

It is one of the reasons I'm glad my wife is using the J5 (and J4) before it - they can capture NEF's. Once I showed her what could be done quickly in LR if she shot RAW, she was convinced. Of course I do the post processing. ;)

This is so funny (Not the post but the way I read it) When I was scanning the post to see which ones I needed to read first I misread

as

How painful @jdeg can be.

Big difference
