Traveling with a 5kg limit

Ok so next year I'm going to Las Vegas and Canada. The problem is that I only have a 5kg hand luggage limit on the flight. So I require a strong sturdy shoulder bag that will that the holy trinity, d800 and a flash as that's what I've settled on traveling with. Also needs to be under £100 ($150) if possible.

Any suggestions?

I use the Lowepro Slingshot 302AW. It's a shoulder bag (with a waist strap too to help distribute the weight), can hold all of that stuff easily and should be within your budget.

i guess I was lucky when I flew to Las Vegas they did not weigh my camera case. I had my Pelican 1510 and it weighs 17lbs all by itself. Then add a D7100, d7000, 4 lenses and a SB700 Flash.

Dunno about over there but I don't thinjk they EVER weigh hand luggage over here unless it is over the stipulated size of the hand luggage (they have baskets that your hand luggage bag must fit inside as a guideline) or LOOKS to be excessive. We are also allowed a handbag...most of the time I've flown I've taken my camera bag (lowepro slingshot), tripod and a shopping bag full of bits n pieces and it's never been a problem.

Except the time I took my tripod in a long black vinyl bag and they insisted on looking inside before they'd let me board :D

My son fly home once with a AR15. His mom and I picked him up at the airport. I carried the rifle in its case through the airport. I really did gets lots of strange looks. And yes, we can travel with guns here as long as they are checked baggage and stored in the proper cases .

The people I'm flying with actually weigh the hand luggage when you check you bags (guess it one of the reason there cheap) so I'm ridged with the weight.

You might want to look at the Think Tank TurnStyle 20. I reviewed it here with a D800E and trinity of lenses.

I once flew where they weighed everything and then asked the passengers their weight to calculate if they could carry enough fuel to get to the destination (only serviced by this airlines). Had to wear ear plugs and no lavatory. 1st and last time with them. Drove next time.

How much does the body and three trinity lenses plus a flash weigh? I reckon close to 5kg. Putting hem in a bag may bust your limit!!

Flash with go in my case as i can protect that in amongst the socks and other cloths. But now you mention it it's 4.6kg with the flash 4.2 without. I'm lucky as none of my lenses are image stabilized. otherwise I'd be buggered.

What is the fee to go over the limit? Can you reduce it by paying in advance?

Going to look into it as even with packing the flash and my action cam (water proof to 10m and drop resistant) in my case it's going to be cutting it close.

I have a Lowepro Outback 300AW that I used for my trip to Yosemite in 2011. Probably more than enough room. I'm not a big backpack guy for anything other than transportation and leaving it in the car/room (provided it's secure) and this can go over the shoulder and/or around the waist. Fairly sure the 70-200mm will fit in the side pouch, but if not it'll fit inside - my Sigma 150-500mm does.

Not sure if they still make them, but Amazon has 'em.
