I had an interesting morning.

Went up to my mountains to shoot some pano's. I pull off to the lookout point and pull my tripod and my cam with the 35mm attached. What do I see in front of me? A golden eagle circling around.
Run back to the car to grab my 70-300. By the time I put the lens on, the bird is gone. (note to self. Buy a D400 for birding)

No problem, I do my panos and a few other landscape shots, in my usual Aperture priority 100 ISO setting. (I'm on a tripod now..)
I finish all that and I'm thinking maybe I better put my 70-300mm on, just in case I see the eagle again.

Sure enough, I see the eagle circling around. I pull the car over, get out and wait for it to get a little closer. Off I go cranking out shots left and right. Then the bird goes away, but it's fine, because I got a few shots off and I know they will be fine because I have the Cam set to one of the user settings that I use for fast action stuff. OOOHHH...but do I?

No. Stupid me, left it in Aperture priority with a 100 ISO setting, so most of these shots will be well under a few hundredths of a second shutter speed. (no problem, you live and learn)
At about this time I spot the eagle again. This time I have the right speed for it and take a whole bunch of shots.

I start heading down the mountain. I notice my brakes are a little soft. By the time I get down from the mountain I have lost about 90% of my brakes. I'm real careful driving the last 10 miles to the house. I pull in my driveway and I have no brakes left whatsoever. I hit the garbage can trying to stop!!

So now come monday morning I have to call a wrecker to tow the thing to a garage and try and get it fixed. I wonder how much that is going to cost?
Oh well, at least I have a bunch of great flying eagle shots...Or, DO I??

Well, I don't! I have bunch of great flying turkey vulture shots....:excitement::biggrin-new:

I swear! I don't know how some people make it through life without a sense of humor. :indecisiveness:

You may have just overheated the brakes. If you've never flushed the fluid, and it's a couple years old, it can start boiling on you. It's best to flush brake fluid every 2-3 years (some recommend annually, but I think that's more often than necessary). Can you tell I hang out on car forums, too? :)

Ah man, what a day you had @Blacktop. Sorry to hear everything seemed to have a meltdown.

BUT.... What we all want to know is.... Where are those beautiful pano's you took at the beginning?! :)

Same kind of day for us today, just different situations. Makes a guy really appreciate when things go smoothly.

Working on that as we speak. I really like this ICE program. However I think I need to save the stitched pano's in JPEG instead of TIF's. It is taking forever to do PP on them.

Hey @Blacktop, I for one can feel your frustration. Been there and done that. Just got the D5500 back from a loan out and mated the Sigma macro to it, they will be married for quite some time. My plan anyway. The D7200 is married to that pos Tamzooka for reaching out, (she deserves better), and the D700 will be for everything else. Another upside to dedicated pairs is addressing sensor dust issues.

Thank god your alright buddy, @Blacktop !

My brakes went out on my jacked up Ford F150, 390 engine with 44" tires, and I blew through an off ramp light before getting it to a stop at the next light, barely! Fixing brakes all of a sudden became top priority, and down shifting hard and loud to the brake shop three more lights down! Uuuugggggglllyyyy feeling, and talk about cardio work outs!

With nothing but exhaust traps on that truck, everybody gave me plenty of room by the way! Noisy exhaust for sure!

I sure miss that truck! Lol :frog:

I love when brakes go out. Best feeling ever. Glad you made it home in one piece!

My first truck was an old 84 chevy beater. Had the brake go out on me multiple times my first year driving. Thanks to that truck, I am a professional homebrewed mechanic haha
