My new Phantom

Just took my new phantom for its maiden flight (after charging all batteries overnight). And it was good fun and a bit easier to fly than I first originally thought it would be.

Here is a shot from the camera, pretty good quality. I am uploading the video now, nothing fancy but just a quick 4min of me testing out the Phantom. Will post the link here when its done.

You are shooting in DNG aren't you? I have found that PhotoShop handles these files very good. If you get into shooting video then I have found a good piece of software that will apply lens correction.

I can't wait to see some of your photos. I just got in the filter holder and am waiting on the CP now so that will help in the photos/videos from what I have been told.

I think that was jpeg, I should change it to DNG though. A filter holder seems like a good idea.

Be prepared for a black screen while taking .DNGs. It takes forever and a day to process it, and you have a black screen for what will seem like an eternity.

Maybe we should add a Phantom Flyters forum here.

I was having a major problem with my iPhone app crashing every time I moved the camera and sometimes at other times. I did some research and found a recent update was the problem. IF you have this problem then the latest firmware fixes it. Also one thing I learned this week was the setting that uses the iPhone movement to adjust the camera angle. Tilt the iphone and the camera tilts. Not sure about right and left yet will have to play with that one.

With the V3 I get a gimbal controller on the left hand side of the remote, it is nice and smooth. But yeah did get the app crashing. Will need to check out the latest firmware I think.

If I may make a suggestion, guys, for your landing gear on those things.....tie wrap some foam noodles around the bottom of the landing gear to soften the landing AND to protect the camera. Trust me, I know from experience. :)

Similar to what's on the bottom of this octocopter.

Yes I saw this before, I may go to the hand catching though it will require some practice.

Actually, hand-catching is easy. Just move the craft to about 3m up, 3m away, and let it hover. Walk up to it, firmly grasp the landing strut with one hand while the other sticks-down on the control to stop the motors.

Our Phantoms are also a lot smaller and much lighter than this drone. I have been amazed at how easy and softly they land. Also the latest firmware limits the descent speed so those hard crashes are not as likely to happen.

I saw your first landing and you did a great job. My first landing bounced a little but was still upright.

Cheers mate, most of my landings were smooth but I am sure my confidence will get to me ;)
