Just about set for the journey to NE

I never unpacked (though I did pull everything out and re-arrange it) most of the stuff from the Jeep as it was not needed. The Jeep got new shoes yesterday and I will get the oil changed again. About 1000 miles early but I have another 1200 to get there. The engine has 218,000 on it so I will be kind to it. I am taking the Hasselblad gear and my scanner with me this time. The day I get there they are supposed to have 3-5 inches of snow/ice pellets so the new tires will be certainly welcome!

I am actually staying in Sioux City IA. It is about a 25 minute drive to the hospital, not bad. Monday was a bit of a wakeup call. I went out to start the Jeep so it could warm up. It barely wanted to crank. I looked at the thermometer and it said -12. I went back inside and got ready. I came out and the engine was up to temp but the air was still cold. All I could think was man, I bet my thermostat froze closed! As I got on the road my engine temp kept going up but no hot air. Suddenly there was a POP and steam came out from under my hood but then it quit. I pulled over, opened up the hood, which was nearly frozen shut and could not see any blown hoses or any more steam. I did not have any problems in AZ, but it only got down to the low single digits. I called USAA roadside assistance and got it towed. I had a half full can of soda in the Jeep and it froze solid waiting for the tow truck to arrive. Apparently enough of my coolant froze in the radiator that it was not circulating. As the temp went up, so did the pressure and it blew the lower coolant hose off of its fitting. They drained what they could and replaced it with more antifreeze. Now I am good down to -35. I am VERY thankful it was nothing more than that!! The high today is supposed to be 16, which is where it is now but dip down to -9 tonight.
