Hey guys and girls from around the world.
I am looking at doing something exciting for my 40th birthday in December 2015 (yes its a year away, but I like to plan). Was looking at Iceland for the amazing scenery but have since learnt that December can be real bad for weather... So that is why I am approaching everyone here for ideas and hints, I want something exciting, adventurous, nature and everything that makes you feel alive. All suggestions considered....

Roy1961 - Chile
Scott Murray - Iceland (still viable after more reading)
Scott Murray - Alaska
Scott Murray - Galapagos
Scott Murray - Komodo Island / Borneo
oldhippy - Greek Isles
Blacktop - American Southwest? Wonderful landscapes in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah
jdeg -
Cappadocia region in Turkey
eyelight - Boundary waters Minnesota

Places already visited.

If it wasn't in December, I would say Alaska. How bout the American Southwest? Wonderful landscapes in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. If you get bored shooting the beautiful landscapes, then it's only a hop, skip and a jump to Las Vegas, for some wild action, Scott style.

Happy Birthday mate. My Birthday is also in December.

I would second the American Southwest. Specifically the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Arches National Park and/or Bryce Canyon in Utah. Unfortunately, the closest I've been is flying over the Grand Canyon a couple times on my way to and from Vegas, but I'd love to go some day. FYI, Utah can get pretty cold/snowy in the winter.

I would also recommend the Cappadocia region in Turkey. It's right in the middle of the country so you don't have to worry about Syria or anything. I can give you info on where we stayed and the tour people we used if you want. They were really good about everything and it was a really amazing trip!
