Cold...but nothing new. Winter just hit early. It's going to get up into the 50's over the weekend.

But i am in Ohio....and not hit near as hard as the states east and west of me.

Ohio here, also. We're been freezing cold for a week, but not a lot of snow. Parts of Buffalo, NY got up to 60" of snow!

No snow here yet, though freezing temperatures at night. I haven't been watching the weather much, though my increase of pain let's me know there is a change in barometer.
But our home is warm so far, but I imagine we'll be buying more heating oil soon.

I've gotten emails and messages from many folks out of the US asking about it, so I can only imagine how it's being portrayed elsewhere. I really appreciate the concern.

Yeah, there's been some bitter cold recently across a lot of this giant nation, but the snow horrors are very limited in scope by comparison, mainly in the "lake effect" regions around the Great Lakes up north, and in particular the area around Buffalo, NY. To give you an idea how most of us are doing, if you're not in the pink areas then you're probably surviving just fine.

Almost 7 feet of snow near us in Buffalo. It's going to be a mess for them this weekend with the expected rain and 60 degree weather.

I'm a little south of Buffalo. Yes they got in places close to 7' and are expecting another 18" in places. I heard they're concerned where it's going to go when warmer weather hits this weekend.

Had a 1" of snow here in Connecticut a few days ago. It's all gone, and just cold, in the 20's.
Clear and dry. 60 and rain later this weekend.

We used to live in Syberia-cuse, New York (Syracuse). It's a huge storm, but in Buffalo, it hit only in what they call lake effect bands. A band is like this....it might only be 10 miles wide and snowing heavily in that 10 mile wide band, but maybe it's total length is 30 miles. In effect, it's a 10 mile by 30 mile 'band' of snow. If you are even 1 mile out of the band, the snow most likely is only flurries with no real accumulation going on. A band is created by cold air rushing over the warmer Great Lakes and then moving acccording to the wind patterns. We lived in Syracuse, as I said, and frequently we would get the bands in that area. Syracuse, on average per year, gets more snow than the Buffalo airport records. It's not uncommon for upstate NY cities to get 5" a day during the coldest part of winter.

I've seen some pictures of the snow in the USA. one picture was of a car park, the snow was that deep you could just about make out where the cars were.
Another picture of a couple who opened there front door, to find 4 foot of snow at the door.
