Ok, I've decided I want to upgrade my camera. I want to keep it at 700.00 Body only is probably the best way to go. The D5200 looks good. Any thoughts?

I want to keep it at 700.00

You can't. No one can!

What if you see something that is 800.00 and a great deal. Then you see something that is 900.00 and even a better deal.
Then you start thinking, and agonizing, then looking at countless reviews on countless websites for months.

It's vicious circle that can never be broken.

I know. But I WILL keep my max amount at 700.00 I hope.......

If looking at new there's not that many choices.

If I was absolutely not going over $700.00 I'd look at the D5300 while I wasn't watching, figuring that if I don't notice, I may not realize until after I'd spent the extra $50.

Uh what kind of upgrade are you looking for buddy? Just a tech upgrade? If your just looking for a tech upgrade and you like the feel of your D3100, then I would recommend the D3300. The 5xxx series feels smaller to me, when I had the D5100. It wasn't as comfortable in my hands as the D3100 was. But if your wanting that flip out screen, then the D5300 would be what I would recommend.

But if your looking for a more pro feel and abilities, then I'd suggest a D300 for full pro, or a D90 for great simi-pro feel! But these two choices are only if MPs aren't the priority, but great quality build, feel, and versatility of lens choices since they have a built in focus motor you can use both AF-D and AF-S using auto focus! :D

And if your really after the tech, but would really like the abilities of the pro like models, then I would suggest waiting and saving up for the D7100 which covers both bases pretty well from what I hear! :D

tyre + $700 = d7100?:D

i would try and keep saving for the D7100 mate, harder to do but would be worth it, this coming from someone who couldnt wait 2 months on the D7100 :D

I'm the worst example for someone with patience! Lol But if I did have some patience, then I wouldn't let the lack of $50.00-$400.00 keep me from getting a much better camera model if I already saved up $700.00.

But for me personally, I didn't and still don't need the higher MPs since I'm not printing large photos, or any photos for that matter. I much prefer the small files though, and love the pro quality and abilities of my D300! The only hard thing is I want the D700 to go with it, as they would complement each other. So saving up for that will be a really huge challenge for me with no patience to speak of! Lol But someday I'll find a way to get it, somehow! Lol :D

I'm not sure what that means, but it must be a great plus if your recommending it my friend! :D
Thats the Low pass filter removed from the D5300. Spose to take sharper pics. You should scrape it off the D300's sensor and let me know how it turns out.:frog:

Hmmm........ Since your smarter than I am, I think it would be best if you scrape it off of your D300's sensor and then post all about how it turns out for ya buddy! Lol ;)
For some reason, I doubt it would turn out well if I try to myself. But like I said your smarter than I am, so you should be able to handle it no problem! Lol :D

I didn't think about the D7000. That sounds like a great deal. Plus it has an internal focus motor. When Nikon refurbs a camera do they reset the shutter count?

Nope, they don't reset it.

I didn't think so. Thanks for confirming that. I believing that waiting for the 7100 would be the better way to go. I'm at times like Bill. Very impatient, But I just figured out how to increase my budget to 800.00 I'll need to research to see how much I can get for my D3100
D3100
IR battery grip with remote
two batteries one non-OEM with factory charger
55-200 Nikon non VR lenses
That should net around 225.00-250.00 I would think
Which would give me around 1100.00 towards the D7100 body I found them refurbed for 975.00
