Warning this is a non-nikon camera but how handy would this zoom range be? And would the quality be any good?

Don't know if that really ends up looking all that great. I am going to say it goes to a digital enhanced zoom. Maybe it may be ok do they have any test shots rather than video?

That's a pretty impressive zoom. Not really impressed with the sensor size. Not much bigger than one you would find in a phone. And we all know about the sensor size vs quality.

Sample images, there is also a 'cough' Canon equivalent. But I think I will stick to getting the coolpix A as I can crop my D800E as much as these photos :)

Well if you are going back to Nikon, Coolpix A, or Coolpix P7800 would be good buys. Also maybe something like a V or J series body (Prefer V because of the VF)

Not bad, as long as ISO is kept at reasonably low levels. Nikon's point'n'shoot - disastrously low quality (since the gorgeous P100, Nikon has not been able to produce a megazoom that could beat Canon's SX line-up and Olympus SP_UZ in terms of quality vs price - Nikon is extremely overpriced exactly when it comes to this category of cameras - another failure being it's P7000/7100...7700 - lousy sensors poorly performing at high ISO, compared to Canon's "G" series).

Imagine how much better this video would be if the camera was mounted on a tripod. That's the one thing I don't like about watching videos that were hand held...the shakiness. It's annoying, to say the least.

Anyway, besides this gripe, the digital zoom AF seems to be pretty sharp for the size of sensor it has.

Here is a sample shot using the Nikon Coolpix A. Exif data attached. I think it can handle low light pretty good even when set at AUTO ISO to 3200. The lens appears to gather light much better.
