That's a strange one. The comments are in line with what I'm thinking. If the sensor is fried then he wouldn't be getting anything in those spots instead of a lightened area with actual content. And the fact that it's not visible at higher ISO's tells me that there's something not right with the pixel information coming from that area. Definitely needs a trip back to Nikon. Sensor shouldn't cook with a single, 1/8000s shot with direct sun.

I've shot literally thousands of shots directly in to the sun. So far it's not created any problems.

From what I've read, you should NOT shoot directly at the sun....even though I have before I learned it can cook your sensor....

i only shoot at the sun at night time, so my sensor will be ok

Only two reports and no proof of a possible problem but at least we know if our cameras ever have this problem
