Does anybody out there use twitter in a business sense? Follow, unfollow, retweet. I'm not sure what the benefit is, except I sometimes find an interesting link within the tweet.
Would love to hear if and how the rest of you use it, if at all.

Best Regards

I don't use Twitter, Facebook, or any of those other "social" networks. I just don't see the point. Besides......I have enough to fill my days without adding useless drivel to the World Wide Web. ;)

The photographer that did my wedding has a Facebook page: Debi Parker Photography | Facebook

Of course I also use it to update people on this site along with Twitter.

Both can be great for promotion if used correctly.

On a personal level I've been using Facebook since 2005. I mainly use it now to secretly make fun of people I went to high school with. haha

1000+ tweeter here. No, I don't have 50,000 like some people I follow...but Twitter is an excellent tool if used correctly. The problem is, there's so much garbage out there about how to make money w/ Twitter that it turns most novice users off. Most people simply get overwhelmed or confused and end up not using it.

I used to follow a ton of people, and that's stupid. Follow 200-400 max, and target a specific interest group (like photography) and you will see the real value of Twitter. I can't even begin to tell you how many great photo ideas/photoshop actions/tutorials I have pulled from Twitter.

+1 with Jack, Joseph and Betty White...

“I really have to thank Facebook … I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time."

I have a twitter account but have been doing nothing with it until Cyclone Yasi started heading to Australia. My friend's daughter lives there and we could not find anything up-to-date online, on tv --most of it was literally a day late. Until I took a look at twitter . . . found several people "tweeting" from the affected areas, and found really up to the minute update links that were retweeted.

So, I'm willing to rethink and retry. It'll keep my "scanning skills" honed at least. It kind of reminds me of the days of telegrams.

So, if you want to follow me, ohkphoto, I will follow you!

You are followed!

The best way to get started w/ Twitter is to use the search to find popular photography hashtags (keywords with # in front of them). Try these out and find some great Tweeps:

  • #photography
  • #togs
  • #photog/#photogs
You'll find many relevant tweets when searching by hashtags. And just remember to keep your list exclusive. It's not a contest to see how many people you can follow, which is the mistake most people make. And you don't have to follow back everyone who follows you, most of those people are just internet marketers and spambots anyway.
