Can I take my D5200 into Pro Sports Stadiums/Fields/Arenas?

I have great seats for a Pittsburgh Pirate game coming up and I was wondering if they will let me bring in my D5200 or will they say that it is a "Professional" camera? Anyone have any experience with this? Baseball fields, Football Stadiums, Hockey Arenas?

My experience is very limited, but the professional sports venues I've attended events in did not allow "cameras with detachable lenses".

However, the Pirates' website's A-Z Ballpark guide states that you're welcome to bring a camera with restrictions. I'd refer to the web site if I were you.

Yep, in KC they let me bring a lens in but stated no tripods... Had to laugh at that one. But I would check their website as I am finding out all stadiums are different. I have even been told to take it back to my car they dont allow DSLR's in their stadium, this was a college game.

Here is a good website I found in case you are interested in the rules for your team. Thanks for all the replies!!!

This is all a revalation to me -- I have never heard of such! So are moneyed team owners and League officers worried that fans are going to take excellent pictures that will somehow devalue official merchandise?

Sandpatch,

That's likely part of it. Liability is another.

I guess it may behoove those who try this to print out a copy of the venue's rule for the event if they allow photography. If the gate says that you can't do something, but you have it in writing that you can, ask for a supervisor to clarify the situation. But if you do this, make sure you've "crossed every i and dotted every t". :D

i looked over a few of the stadiums and some seem very reasonable. They say no commercial use and must not block the view of the ball game for other guests. Then some I would not even want to walk by on the sidewalk outside with a Polaroid.

I take mine to Turner Field all the time, even had it on me alumni weekend and an usher took our pic. We also had the photo people take pics with it alumni weekend with various players, including Sid Bream who should be more than familiar to you Pirate fans out there! :)

It all depends on the team rules. I went to a Bills training session last year and took my zoom lenses. I was able to get some great shots.

Any reason why you wouldn't carry your camera in a camera bag, such as a Lowepro Sling or a Lowepro Messenger type bag? Do they check the contents of bags at these games? I take mine to Flames games and Calgary Stampeder football games with no trouble at all.

Ya'll got me thinking about this so I looked up the Braves' policy. "All cameras must be hand held and no longer than 5" in length. No tripods or monopods will be permitted. Hand-held video cameras and still cameras for personal use may be brought into the ballpark, provided no game action is recorded in accordance with Major League Baseball regulations. Please be courteous to those guests around you when taking pictures, the equipment may not obstruct the view of other guests. Camera cases must fit through the bag template and will be inspected prior to entrance into the ballpark."
I have a 3100 with just an 18-55 and a 55-200 lens so I doubt I'd be over the 5" size limit. I have taken it with me now to 4 games and have never been questioned. Going again on Sunday, hope they don't say anything!
