A Black and White Study

I thought I would share some B/W photographs I shot today.

This first frame is the original color scene:

The 2nd is being converted to Grayscale via Fastone with VERY MINOR post-adjustments:

The 3rd is using the B/W setting in the actual camera (with same adjustments as the 2nd):

The above in my opinion is far inferior to the second example.

The following are other B/W photographs taken at the same scene (with same adjustments as the 2nd):

Of course they look a whole lot better in the larger files. ;) Chime in if you wish. :)

Nice examples. I haven't gotten into B&W as much, mostly because it seems like a pretty different 'eye' is needed for seeing an excellent B&W composition before snapping the shutter, but I'm sure that's just lack of experience on my part.

Good work!

Had to move this to the Non-Nikon section since they are shot with a Canon PowerShot. If you have photos shot with a non-Nikon camera then they need to go in this section of the forum.

Just in case anybody wonders: in the 4th photograph those mountains were about 40 miles away taken with 800mm eq. (not cropped)

Your black and whites lack contrast. Since you have the "NO" selected for editing your pictures, I won't show you what I was able to do with a simple level adjustment in photoshop.
