Hello all.

Sorry, I'm recently retired and moved here from Massachusetts, so I haven't quite gotten used to saying 'Hi y'all' yet. :)

I've owned a D70 for a number of years, and, I admit, never seemed to have the time to learn how to properly use it. Now I have the time, so I upgraded to a D7100. My wife is inheriting the D70.

I am a newbie, and rather than just learning how to navigate the menus, sub-menus, buttons, and all the multiple settings on this wonderful camera - without having a clue as to what they all did - I went to the local library and checked out an excellent book. "Digital Photography - Complete Course". It's not specific to the Nikon, but it does a wonderful job of explaining things like exposure compensation, depth of field, etc, then has pages of 'assignments' - photos taken in different conditions - to reinforce the subject covered. It forces me to go through the Nikon manual to find out how to do what on the camera.

Of course, the book is layed out as a 20 week course. I wonder how much the late fees are going to add up to?

Hello and welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

The D70 was my first digital camera, then I moved up to a D200 and am currently shooting with a D7200.

Welcome Lindy to the forum. The D7100 is a very nice camera and will probably last you a long time. (I know because I own one. Ha!) There are some very knowledgeable people on here that can answer any questions you may have. You are definitely on the right track in using the manual. It is a great source of information.

I shot the D7100 for a while until I upgraded and now my wife shoots it. It is a great camera.

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7100; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks
