Good morning everyone! I'm new to the forum. I've been shooting my D80 w/18-200vr since 2004. I bought it the day after my daughter was born 12 years ago. It's sad to say that the first 10 years the camera was shot only in auto mode. Ive been learning to shoot manual the past two years. Today my daughter has her eyes set on my camera. She doesn't know it yet but I got her a new D5300. She will more than likely go for the 18-70. I told my wife and she gave me the ok to get me the D7200 body. I'm super excited and can't wait to post some pics for critique.

Welcome Jonas. It sounds like you are going to have fun shooting with your daughter. Congratulations on the new cameras. I can see more lenses in the future. Ha!

Ha! I have a few lens but none at the upper levels or better primes. I bought and tried lens that I was able to afford, lenses that gave a broader use. As much bang for my buck is what I did. The D80 is getting sold to my coworker along with the 18-200. To help with the new purchase. I would love to own the 85mm 1.8 good glass on any camera makes taking pictures even more enjoyable. With or without anyone shooting with me.

Welcome and howdy. You will like the D7200 and the 18-200 will work great on it.

Hey Brent, by your user ID are you also an avid rider? The 18-200 won't make it in either of the two new bodies. It's the first gen that had no barrel lock, that was a pain. I also put a dent on the barrel so it no longer moves smooth through its range but still very useable. I've heard good stuff about the 18-140 but I have the old 24-120 3.5-5.6 Just in case

None of the super zooms are going to be the sharpest knives in the drawer. From what I have been able to determine, I either got an exceptional copy of my 18-200 or the first generation 18-200s are very nearly as good as the 18-140. I while I can attest that the 18-200 does not come close in the 80-200 f2.8 in sharpness, I have got some very good results from the 18-200 on my D7200.

Welcome to the forum.

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7200; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks

I also loved my 18-200 but the magic number is f2.8 which both the 18-140 and 18-200 do not have. And if it did shoot at 2.8 then I probably couldn't afford it.
