Hi, I recently took a series of photos while on holiday and some were okay and others not. They were all shot on auto as I'm new to this game. The camera has not been dropped or damaged.
any ideas?

Welcome!

Someone here may have another suggestion, but if it's still under warranty, I would send it in.

Welcome to the website.

Now your back home, go out and take some more pictures to see if you can replicate the problem,

also make sure the battery is fully charged, and format the card in the camera.

That's looking suspiciously like a sticky shutter curtain. If that's what it is, it could be because the camera hasn't been used in a while and if that's the case it *might* self-correct with continued use. That's a lot of "if's" though. Still, I would try taking a LOT of photos (put it on Continuous, High and just blast away), delete all the photos and repeat this process a time or three. If the stickiness continues over the long haul, you're most likely looking at a professional-level repair.

I had that problem recently and I Googled the problem (redirected me to a YouTube vid) and it happened to be a mirror lock (pardon if I don't use the term correctly) I used a thin paper clip to move the mirror from right to left since it got stuck on the rubber stopper. And it quickly returned to its place and my pix didn't look like your bottom pic anymore! I was so relieved bc I thought I'd lost my camera! Good luck!
