Strange.... None of the forums I haunt have the ability to totally, completely erase an account. We can delete all the posts, erase all the uploads, and change the username to something nonsensical like user123456.
But most forum softwares simply do not have a delete function written into them.
I think you're being asked why you want to delete your account to make sure the appropriate steps are taken. Some, like you, signed on with your real name, and found out later that may not be a good idea. If that's the case, your username can be changed.
As a mod in other forums, our SOP is to have the member remove any uploads from their account, change their password to gobblybook they can't remember, remove their email (or change it, so they'll never get an email from the forum), then ask them to log out. Bam, they're gone.
We then change their username for them. Your account is still on the server, but you'll never hear from the forum because your email is invalid, and you don't know what we changed your username to. Plus, you changed your password to 23ns098(*u2(3o~jnas9d8uf23nN#)32n0n)(#*.
