Thanks all!

jdeg, I took these shots with my Nikon D300 and a Sigma 100-300, hand held from a boat on a river in BC on a guided photo tour I went on last October during the salmon run.
I can post some more in a new thread from that tour, just wanted to show something in my introduction to introduce myself.

Hi, I was born in the US, grew up in Germany and now work and live in Canada!
I started with photography about 2 1/2 years ago after buying my first dslr, my main interests are landscape and wildlife photography.

My favorite subjects are birds of prey

It was a guided tour and we were never in danger. Only once the wind blew us closer and we were around 4 meters (13' I think) away from a massive grizzly sow in the water next to us fishing for salmon.

The largest I've seen here in Alberta was a grizzly last year, was desperately trying to find one just to see it. Then I ran into this sow and she let me photograph her for two hours.

Thanks Heather. The last one was just a matter of time, I spent six days straight in that area looking for signs of bears, tracks, scat and then one morning while driving up the road for the first time I saw her. The days before I saw nothing at all. A good place to watch bears is in South Alberta, Waterton Lakes NP. I took my parents there last October who were on a visit and we saw 15 bears in 4 hours which is a pretty good day.

Welcome aboard Calgary 617, this seems to be a good place to be (they keep me in the site anyway).
To Pavement Pilot I read your piece & agree with you.

Viewing this great picture is as close as I'd want to get to a grizzly nowadays (my fighting grizzly days are long since gone).
Great shot I love it.!!!
