Hi! So glad to be here! After a little research, and a couple years of thinking, I have decided that it is time to retire my ancient Panasonic DSLR and upgrade to a newer camera. My inlaws are all avid Nikon users and love them. I have narrowed down my search to either the D3300 or D5200. I am considering going with the D5300 if I can find a good deal.

Can anyone give me feedback on these selections or give me pros or cons on any of these models. I've almost gotten to the finish line on buying, but I'm stuck now.

Thanks in advance and can't wait to sink my fingers into this hobby hardcore.

Of those three I'd say hold out for the D5300. The D5300, on Amazon anyway, is only $150 more than the D5200 but the D5300 has had the OLPF removed, which will give you significantly better image quality. The '5300 has some other perks like a longer battery life, higher res rear-LCD, higher maximum ISO and less shutter lag. I think the geotagging feature on the D5300 is kinda cool too but then the GF and I do a lot of hiking out in the back-country so it's of particular usefulness for us. Speaking of which, the girlfriend just started shooting with a D5300 after having upgraded from a D3200 and the difference is pretty amazing. If I couldn't shoot with my current D7100, I could be very happy with a D5300 instead. It's a camera that you can grow with for a long time.

All that being said, the D5200 is no slouch, either...

I'd say.....wait a minute! I might just sell you my practically brand new D7100 with a 18-140 mm lens for a good price. If interested, let me know! I need to advertise it pretty soon. The 7100 only has around 200 clicks on it....reason I'm selling is because I just bought a D610. I really love the 7100 though, great camera!
