Just discovered that I too am a Nikonite!

Hello fellow Nikonites!
I am thrilled to have discovered this community and look forward to sharing and growing! I am a total newbie! I have so much to learn so please bear with me as I stumble around in this universe of photography! I have just recently stopped using the "Auto" mode which is scary and exciting all at the same time.
Catch up soon!

Hello Laurie Anne, so glad you found Nikonites! Some great folks here will spend the time to help. I'm so glad you are exploring the manual settings on your camera. I am from the school that you really aren't taking pictures until you're in control over what the camera is doing.

Hi Laurie Anne, I'm the guy that wrote Manual Mode for Dummies. Glad you liked it. Welcome to the Nikonites Community. You will find a lot of friendly people here who like to talk photography and about their Nikons. There are a lot of D90 users here. Any questions you may have there is someone here that can provide an answer.

Hi, Laurie, and welcome to the forum! We're a fun-loving group with a lot of knowledge and very willing to help anyone who asks! If you experiment a little with the A (aperature priority) and S (shutter priority) modes, you'll find it's much easier to then slide into manual mode.

I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your country and to your future posts!

Best Regards

Hello Helene!
Oh my goodness... It is so refreshing to be so quickly welcomed here! I appreciate it! I am just beginning to experiment. I am so thrilled to be here! I can't wait to upload some photos but it appears I need to be approved or something! I look forward to more communications!
Cheers,
Laurie Anne

Hello Joseph!
Thanks again for writing the article! It is that kind of information that someone like me really needs! I am a little left brain challenged so it takes a while! LOL! I am pretty good at the aesthetics but need to learn a lot about the technical. I am just beginning to learn my way around the site... it is a great layout! I just can't figure out how or when I will be able to upload some photos! I am loving this place! Thank you!!!
Cheers

Hi Laurie Anne
Welcome aboard, you will find this to be a very friendly and helpful site as everyone has already mentioned to you. Helene's suggestion of using the Shutter or Aperature priority first is a good idea. You can see what the camera recomends for settings to match the F stop or Speed you set, and compare to what you would have set. Best thing to do is shoot as much as you can, keep a shot log with as much info as you can. And the Maual mode will become second nature before you know it.

Hello Joseph!
I think I replied to this but it seemed to have vanished! Thanks for the welcome note! It is such a great feeling to join an engaging community! It feels so refreshing! Do you know when I will be allowed to post images? I can't seem to figure that one out!
All the best,
Laurie Anne

Hello Fotojo!
Thank you for the welcome! Thanks so much for the advice and suggestions... I have not thought of a 'shot log' - what a brilliant idea! I look forward to progressing! Yeah!
Cheers Mate,

Hi Laurie, I see you got the photo posting thing figured out. I took a quick look at the shots in your Gallery. You have the eye of an artist. If I may make one small suggestion on the fence and gate shot. It's a very good shot just like it is. It's a classic scenic one third composition. The color is great. The major feature of the shot is the fence and gate with the background secondary and out of focus. All the attention is drawn to the fence and gate. Next time you get a chance to take that shot again back off and include the entire gate and fence and move them up a bit more into the the bottom third of the composition. That way you are not cutting off part of the main feature. Try it and see how it works.

Welcome Laurie,
I think one thing that makes this site fun is great attitude of the people on it. Not pretentious. I have learned a lot here and enjoy the interactions with people. You have a great camera to learn on. It is more than you may use up front but you won't out grow it as you learn. I think it helps you learn quicker too.

Welcome to the site Laurie,
It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of navigating the site, but once you do you will be posting like a pro.

Hello Joseph,
Thank you - yes - I see now! I knew there was something out of whack with this photo... and you nailed it! The focus point being on the horizon would also create a different experience too - putting the gate out of focus. At the time I was more focused on trying the capture the sunset. It was not until I uploaded my photos that I realized this shot would have been fun to play around with - exploring the angle and focal points around the feature gate as well as the mountaints. So much to learn - technically and experientially! Fantastic constructive feed back! Thank you!

Hello Mark,
I agree 100%! Brilliant people here and the learning/mentoring aspect is so refreshing!
The D90 was a big jump from my previous point N shoot garden variety camera's I have always had.
Fantastic support here - I am truly touched and love the feeling of community here!
Happy Clicking!
