Those are nice shots. Something I have been thinking about trying, astrophotography. However I do not have a lens fast enough.

Sure you do. Your 18-55 will work just fine. Wide open at f/3.5, bump the ISO up to 3000 and experiment from there. Leave the shutter open for 30 seconds.

Try not to go over 20 sec. exp. if you can. You will get star trails if you go to long. That is unless you want them. Use a remote shutter or your timer to elim. shake.

I agree with Sailor and you will need to bump the ISO to over 4,000 at 20 seconds. At 18mm you might get by with 25 but probably not on a DX camera.
