Rick's Kayaking Images

So I needed another Hobby to spend money on :). Have always wanted to try kayaking and after the first outing I was sold. I'll post up my kayaking shots here, enjoying a new perspective on shooting. These first shots are with the V2 and 30-110 (70-300). Now that I'm a bit more steady, I'll bring the 70-200 f4 next time to give me a 540mm equivalent.

Good shots Rick, however I'm kind of disappointed . From the title of the thread, I thought you're going to be posting selfies of you paddling and turning over.:p

Nice shots but I would be a nervous wreck with my equipment in a kayak. It does give you the stealth approach, great idea.

I went out camera free on my first 2 outings :), until i felt comfortable. I picked up a dry bag which protects my gear and creates an air pocket when sealed. So it is safe when not shooting and while shooting, I'm pretty stable. I won't graduate to bringing the D600 until the fall foliage is in peak.

I looked at these a while back for fishing out of, never thought about taking pictures. I know they make stabilizers for them as well.

Once you get the feel for it, you would have to intentionally roll it (unless you are in rapids or big waves). The most "tipsy" part is getting in or out, at which time the gear is sealed in the dry bag. It took a few outings until i felt comfortable, I was on a large lake with 1-2 foot waves last weekend and had no trouble, despite having a small 10 foot boat.

Great results,my wife and i used to kayak,we then got fed up up with inland water and had a go at sea kayaking, this was our first failed attempt at getting out on a rough tide, the commentary and camera work is from my mates wife,if it wasn't for shoulder problems we would still be doing it

I almost always take my DSLR with me when I head out in a kayak.
Though I live on the prairies, no oceans here. And I don't go out on rapid water much.

Great shots, but I tend to avoid kayaking in the rivers/lakes/oceans around here as the crocodiles are bigger than most kayaks lol

Lol, I don't blame you! I think all the boats that went by me thought I was nuts. In the great lakes with a 10' kayak!. Some of the waves were eye level :)
