Cedar Fire - On Scene (Wildland fire) (Pic Heavy)

These are the photos from the Cedar Fire, a wildland fire burning near me in California. It's currently at 22,000 acres and only 10% contained. Today was the first loss of property when 6 homes were destroyed. No lives lost thankfully.

Due to the high number of images, I don't expect specific commentary on individual images, but if you feel inclined, please do. Numbering has been added to make it easier, and so you can pick a favorite.

I recently found a new benefit of taking these photos. My latest Facebook post from this fire was shared over 1000 times and viewed 110,000 times, even though I only have 800 likes on my page (before the post, I had maybe 600). The benefit is not views, it's connecting people. Firefighters are a close brotherhood, distant lines are drawn between old buddies from academies and classes that have since parted ways. What that means is my local firefighters that follow me shared my post. People started tagging friends, and sharing the post. Eventually, people from all over the country start commenting, that their husband/brother/son is in a photo. Seemingly no big deal, but these husbands/brothers/sons are often hundreds of miles from home, without contact from family, and gone for weeks at a time. I love when one of these connections is made, because it lets their family know that their Firefighter is safe, and working hard for a cause.

I checked out the Flickr album.:encouragement:
First, my hat is off to those firefighters who are risking their lives.

Second, good job capturing the action in rough conditions like that.

Third. Looks like that 24-70 Tamron is a nice lens on the D750.

Thank you for sharing. Excellent shots. And you are right... these photos posted do link people together and make memories for them. People even start looking for family members in the events. Very cool photos Trey! Thanks for all you guys do.

Yeah I really love this 24-70. It replaced a Nikon 16-35, which I also loved, but paired with a 70-200, I had a large focal gap. I do miss the 16mm occasionally, particularly when doing real estate shoots, but for every day, the 24-70 has been great. It even replaced the 70-200 as the "stays mounted to my camera" lens in my bag.
