Ok today I have applied for my leave for next year. I am hoping to start my trip August 1st from Darwin NT Australia, then I will be driving from the NT across to Cairns in Northern Queensland this is a 3000km trip.

I will then be heading up the development road to the Cape taking in its amazing sights, most of this is smooth driving until I get to the OTT (Old Telegraph Track) from there the real adventure starts.

There will be alot of low range driving and deep water crossings, I am offering a seat on this trip for anyone that may be able to spare a month off and want to come on an adventure and take some photos.

OK so where would your interested party hook up with you?
Presumably at the start ... ?
And where do you depart company - assuming no-one falls off into a croc infested river or gets killed by a snake/spider/native/plant/ or any of the other zillions of things that can kill over there?

And estimated cost of the trip?
(I can do the maths and multiply by 3)

I could pick up from, Darwin, Townsville or Cairns. And depart same places.

Cost of trip I have not worked out, as I will be paying for the majority and the other can provide their food/drinks etc.

Sounds like a great trip coming up Scott. There are many beautiful spots up on the Cape with plenty of great photo opps.

I lived up there for 20 years, no doubt it has changed a bit in the 12 years since I transferred down to Mackay.
I have heard that some of the places I used to go on camping trips, now require a permit to visit and some places you can't take any alcohol. I am glad I was up there when you could go wherever you pleased, and not have any restrictions placed on you.

If you want, I can tell you some of my favourite spots, then you can see if they will fit into your travel plans.

I really couldn't think of a better way to see part of Australia than this sort of trip and you as a companion.
I'll PM you sometime but it is 11.33 pm here and I am about to go to bed.

I think you would need written consent from at least two moderators to take that much time off :D

It's the chance of a lifetime Lawrence - The type of chance you are more likely to regret NOT doing than doing! If I had the time and was in the same hemisphere, I'd jump at the chance.

This photo was taken on Cape York with my old Nikon AF35, it has been scanned off the photo so IQ is not great, but you get the idea ( I am on the left ).

It is my favourite place on the planet, you can swim out off the beach and spear Crayfish, and get Blacklip Oysters as big as your hand off the rocks at low tide .

If the planets align, I might meet you here. No promises, just a maybe at this stage.

Well it seems that I will have a passenger for this trip which will be good :) . And now I am in the planning stages of where we will go and what to see.

The drive from Darwin to Cairns is going to be the killer (2500km oneway) but it will be worth it. And seeing as I have never driven that way it will be very interesting to say the least. I am hoping to cover that distance in 2 1/2 days.

I have also realized that if anyone else wants to come along I can provide my other vehicle, the decked out Nissan patrol which they can drive all they would need to pay is the fuel costs for that vehicle.
