Want To Buy A Backdrop

I'm currently photographing some clothing for a small local business in her home. She fortunately has borrowed a backdrop frame and a big role of white seamless paper from a friend and we're using that as the backdrop with a mannequin (which is also white :/ ) Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to have a similar setup which is portable? (A backdrop that also extends down to the floor) Something that can fit in a bag that I can carry around with me? I know the stand can fold away and fit in a bag but what about a backdrop? The seamless paper this lady has is so long and heavy.

Thanks but that's just for the stand, what about the actual backdrop? Should I be looking for some light weight material that can be rolled into a long bag? or go seamless paper (but if it's anything like what the lady has, it's far too large and heavy to carry around with me)

Go to a fabric store and get some muslin. You should be able to go 60" wide, or close to it.

I don't think us British call it Muslin, I think it's known here as Calico. I see 60" wide on Amazon UK for a cheap price but it comes on different weights. Does that matter? Also how many meters would I need for a typical backdrop?

Amazon.co.uk: Calico

Yes... calico, muslin, same thing. The heavier weights will be thicker, but something in the medium range should be fine. Go to a fabric store and get all touchy-feely with their stock if you want to know exactly what you're getting. How much you need will depend on what you're shooting. Too much is less of a problem than not enough and you want enough fabric so that it drapes well on all sides of what you're shooting. A little applied logic and a tape measure should give you a pretty good idea f what you'll need.

I addressed part of your request :)

Visit camera shops, fabric stores, etc. Not sure what you have in the UK. There are a few online sources, search for 'backdrops' and see if you can find a few who are located in or deliver to your area
