"Manual Strobism" (automotive content)

I went out and tried some "manual strobism" (as I like to call it) last night about 3am and it worked pretty well. Camera on tripod w/ 10 second timer and 1 second shutter, the I'd run to the side and hit the test light on my flash while holding it. We were in an empty parking lot and I used the lot lights off to one side for the main light and the flash to fill the rest of the side of the car. I could use some gels for my flash as the lot lights were a yellowish tint on the rear end and the flash was more of a blueish cast on the side of the car. A little PP action and I think they came out pretty good. Time to save up for some triggers, light stands, and more strobes. I'm hooked!

Let me know what you think!

Many years ago (35) I was taking a photography class at a local Junior College. As a class project we went to The University of Alabama campus one night and all got our flashes off camera and just using one camera locked on Blub we lit the entire building with our flashes. There were about ten of us and we each flashed about three or four times while moving to space the light correctly. That hooked me on off camera flash for years. Have not tried it with my D3100 yet. This will probably be my project.
