Does anyone have this or used this lens?
Was just checking out some used lenses & there's one available for around $95.
Would this work at all with the D5100?

One thing to check for with this lens is that the aperture blades sometimes get sticky. This version of the 55mm Micro is prone to this. Can be fixed by a service...

I have the micro AF 55mm 2.8D, it seems a very nice lens to me, if that ones the same minus the AF, I would get it.
I have to manual focus mine on my body anyway, for macro I prefer this .

I don't know if it will work on your D5100, but someone here familiar with that body will know for sure. The price is good. Ask the seller if the aperture blades snap open and shut or if they are close to you take your body and check it out.The AIS version is a great lens and I believe it is still being made today. It is not the same as the later AF version. The AIS lens produces 1:2 images using the lens alone and requires a PK-13 extension tube to get 1:1. The AF version goes all the way to 1:1 by itself.1:1 means the object photographed is captured the same size on a FX format as it is in real life. Enlarging the image makes it even bigger!!

He emailed me back saying there is a defect with the lens -'the aperture blades are stuck at 2.8f position'
what's that mean? can that be fixed with a service? He's willing to knock off $35 further

I'm so glad I put you onto this somewhat common problem :) Get a quote from a Nikon authorised service agent and make your decision on their quote...
