Just posted an article about how to take apart the 43-86 lens! This took me a considerable amount of time to write so I hope that you like it! :hurt::hurt::hurt:

i sort of miss shooting with this lens on my D750 and D4. I am currently shooting film most of the time and that means using primes more than zooms for me. I will attach it to my F2 and F3 tomorrow and shoot with it.

Very interesting. I will be honest that I did not get through all of it, but I read a good bit and found it interesting. Just a bit more that I think I will try at this point. 10 years ago maybe... but very well done. Thanks for sharing.

Lots of respect goes to the designers, parts manufacturers, and assemblers.
And all this design and optical and machine work was done without computer help.

I enjoy that kind of stuff. When I was healthy I fiddled with hotroding cars and motorcycles. I always admired percussion work like this... gun smiting too.

I see. I am currently suffering from gout so my grip can be painful at times but I will do this until i the day I can't anymore or i lose interest.
i just enjoy opening up things just to see how they work mechanically. I grew up in my grandpa's watch repair shop so that is where I got the curiosity for all things mechanical. Electronics do not give me the same emotional response. they are "cold".

Sure gives you a lot of respect for what was done optically and mechanically before computers started assisting.

Those designers and machinists were something else.

Hello, Texas. Oh,yeah...just take a look at that cup! Initially i thought that the bottom can be separated, I was looking for a seam until I realise that this thing is actually made in 1 piece! i was shocked, no way... then I had the jigs in mind and how they did stuff. I am not sure if this was casted initially,though...
