Lens trade in to buy new.

I have a Nikon lens worth 150.00 new in excellent condition. What would be a good trade in price for my lens on a new lens of equal value. Thanks.

It depends on the demand for your current lens. If it is a kit lens, it will likely have less value than a non-kit lens. Nikonpup's advice is spot on!

You could have a quick look on Ebay and see what the average price is on the lens,

Like Don said, what lens do you have?

I would advise against using Paypal and ebay. I sold a lens on ebay for £250 and Paypal made me wait over three weeks for my money. I have since cancelled my Paypal and ebay accounts. AVOID

The lens is a Nikon DX 55=200 mm 4=5.6. Would like to trade in for a new DX Tamron 70= 300mm. I figured if their going to insult me with a low price on my lens, I'll just give it to my daughter for her Nikon.

I would go to e-bay to see what those lenses are selling for used. Also used lens/camera prices are determined by supply and demand. I'm willing to bet that there is a crapload of 55-200mm lenses out there that not many want, therefor the price will be very low for a used copy. I never look at these things as someone's trying to insult me.
It's just the way it is. I have a D7100 that I paid almost a thousand for refurbished over a year ago, and if I was to sell it now, I would be lucky to get anywhere close to 500 dollars for.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these are only going for 75 - 100 used at B&H. I imagine they were traded in for only 40 - 60. I still have one that is rarely used. Just not the best Nikkor lens ever produced. Sell it yourself. Any offer is worth taking.

Wait...if you are going to sell the lens privately, you might be able to get @ $100 for it if it is one of the later VR versions. Used ones that sold on ebay run $69 to over $100 (for new). Less if it doesn't have VR. BUT...if you are going to trade it in at a camera store, you need to remember they will want to make a profit when selling the lens. If the current used price is around $100, they will surely offer you around half that so they can make some money.

You should go to B&H's web site to see if you can get a quote based on the condition of your lens. Some stores go by the price B&H offers for trade-ins.

EDIT: Steve jumped in ahead of me while I was typing. ;) We are saying the same thing.
