Looks like i may have heard right, lens prices up in the UK

And I thought waiting for lens prices to come down was the sensible thing to do. Unless I missed it the 200-500 wasn't listed in the third post which would be a relief to me as its the only Nikon lens currently on my shopping list.
This just seems like a good way to drive away customers.

The trouble is they like others are losing business, putting prices up can make good sense,i noticed the 200-500 wasnt on it,my dealer told me Nikon UK are not filling any new orders for lenses until after the price rise, this shows where the problem is in the UK its Nikon UK.

Please don't take offence, and I say this with the utmost respect, but you Europeans really need a lesson on economics. Why would you think that raising prices when stuff is not moving off the shelves makes good sense?

I wont take offense if you dont when i say its too complicated to explain,a starting point would be,my business is losing money,my costs cant be cut any more,i have a good idea lets cut prices on products ime already losing money on then i can sell more, make more and lose more money:D

If you're business is losing money, there are a lot of other factors to consider besides just high costs.
The first we always need look at, is the product priced according to market demand?
Am I selling a quality product?
Is my costumer service up to par with other companies who are selling similar products? (Yes I'm looking at you NIKON!)
...and so much more.

However I'm sure that after raising prices, stuff will be flying off the shelves in no time. LOL!:encouragement:

I just said can make good sense i dont know the actual cause for the financial problems nikon have, cutting prices could be the answer also, i guess they have looked at all options and decided a better margin on less sales is the way to try.

Are they putting up prices because there is no cash back on the nice Nikon lenses this winter? (so that it will encourage people to buy now, just like the cash back offer does)

The trouble with that is if dealers dont have the lens in stock Nikon UK will not supply until next year,i think they just want improved margins

There are currency conversion rates to take into account, but this doesn't make any sense. Over last three years Japanese yen lost about 30% of value with respect to pound sterling. I'd expect prices of Japanese products to go down in the UK, not to go up!

Pretty sure Sigma and Tamron punched the air when they heard this. Every photographer in the UK just got another reason to go 3rd party.

Seems like a great time for the marketing departments at Sigma and Tamron to announce a 5% drop in lens prices ...
