Hi everyone ! :D

I have a Nikon D5200 with the following lenses :
Nikon 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 VR AF-S DX
Nikon 55-200 f/4 - 5.6 VR

They came in a set when i purchased the D5200. I've surveyed and explored some lenses, and i'm wondering what should i go for next? Prime Lens? Wide Angle? I shoot mostly theater shows and productions, classical and contemporary music concerts, and occasionally, some portraits. Or are the lens that came with the D5200 already good enough for now?

That's something only you can decide. What you can do is check the mm of all photos you took with the 18-55mm. If hardly any are around 35mm, you might not really need it at the moment.

I got the 50 but myself have no need for the 35. It's different for everyone.

Hi J-see! thanks for the quick reply! When i get the 50mm 1.8, is it a good idea to get the 35mm 1.8 as well? or spend it on something else?
The 35 is really close to the 50 mm. I'd go with a 28 mm 1.8 as a second lens. Giving you a wider landscape lens.

Horoscope Fish got a point there.

I buy what I need based upon the limitations I encounter. If enough times during specific situations my lenses can't deliver what I desire or require, it's time to add another to the family. But as long as I can do what I want to do, I keep the money in my pocket.

I guess I'd say if you don't know what lens you need, you don't need any lenses.

I do agree with that.. Good points.. Since i'm still unsure on what to get , i'll just let the thought sit and make do with what i have for now :D
Thanks for the input guys :D

Hang on to your money until you have a problem that needs solving. The right answer could be a 600mm for wildlife, an 11mm for wide landscapes, a 105mm macro for small stuff, a 50mm because it's fast and cheap, or how about a 70-200 because it's really stunning etc etc?

Trust me, discipline is your friend here or you'll end up with a bag of glass like mine and never know what to take out. I end up taking a bag weighing 28lb away with me every weekend and rarely use more than two lenses.

I had the same lenses as you for a long time. When I bought my D7100 I decided that the 18-55 was to limiting for a walk around lens so I got the 18-140. Love it. I shoot zoos a lot so the 55-200 was just not long enough so I got the 70-300. Love it. Then I started shooting interiors of my house and also more landscapes and found that 18 was just not wide enough so I got the Tokina 11-16. Love it. Each lens I bought was to cover a need/want. I waited for at least 6 months after deciding that I wanted the lens before I bought them. This gave me plenty of time to see if that is really want I wanted of needed. I bought to many lenses and cameras on a whim and ending up having things I did not need or did not quite meet my expectations. As of now I really do not have any NAS. I have what I want. Odd thing is that I could afford a new body or lens right now and the wife would not care.

How far away are you when you shoot those events? If you are up close to the stage, the 50mm 1.8G would be a great buy. If farther, look at a Sigma or Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. If you've got the cash look at a used Nikon 17-55mm 2.8.

There is always the Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 (great on a DX) or the ever famous 70-200mm 2.8 for more reach
