Going on a swamp tour in Louisiana next week, where it's hot and most likely going to be very humid. Anyway to keep my lenses from fogging up beside spitting on them?:joyous:

I haven't had any issues with fogging down in New Orleans, granted that's not really swamp land either. As long as you aren't going from cold to hot/humid, it should stay fog free once acclimated, no?

Sudden change in temperature will definitely do this especially if you are coming from an air conditioned room. Some suggest putting your camera and lens in a plastic bag so that it will condensate the plastic bag instead. I personally have not tried that other than to just suck it up and let the camera and lens get acclimated with the outside room temperature.

Just stay away from keeping the lens close to an AC when going back indoors... you should be fine. If you are worried pick up some of those desiccant bags. Those will keep your gear bag free from moisture.

Thanks QT. I would hit the like button, but I don't see one in your post. I saw one in Rocket Cowboys. Strange.

Make sure you take the time to eat good. If the in-laws ever moved away from NOLA, I'd keep going back just for the food. :)
Oh, I know all about the food. As soon as we get there I'm going to start off with some crawfish etouffee , followed by alligator tail, frog legs and top it off with some boudin balls.

I may not have time to take pictures.:hopelessness:

I also ordered a 32Gig lexar pro 800x CF card for $54.00 from B&H, and a lens hood for Skydog (my 18-140mm) which didn't come with the lens.

Oh crap! I forgot an extra battery!

I'm just going to take 2 lenses on the tour. My Tokina 11-16, and my Nikkor 18-140.

Lenses fog up when you transit from cool AC environment to hot and humid out side. It is quite common during rains in India. Every time I get out of AC, my specs cloud up. Same is the case with camera lenses. What you can do is
. Keep the camera in a sealed plastic bag.
. Keep a lot of silica gel packets in the bag. Check the colour regularly and if it changes, recharge it by drying in an oven.
. Wait at least five minutes for the bag and the camera to warm up, when you come out of AC. Once warm, the camera lense will not attract moisture.
. Be careful of condensation. The one outside will dry out, but condensation inside the camera or the lense may ruin them.

While a gear room is certainly an excellent idea, most any house will have warm spots.

- a closet on an outside wall
- top shelf near an outside corner
- top of the refrigerator

Basically just want to keep the camera above the dew point of the outside air.
