im thinking on sell the d7100 18-55 and 55-300

buy a
d500
70-300vrg
24-85vrg
35mm 1.8
keep the 105
keep the 11-16
keep the 50

anyone think of a better package

Buy a D500 with the Kit lens - either a 16-80 or an 18-60 f2.8 (I can never remeber which way around those numbers should be. That kit lens is incredibly sharp and a perfect walk around lens.

Keep the tokina and the 50mm and the macro lens.
Sell the others and save for a Tamron 150-600 or better still buy an expensive f2.8 zoom. Which one will depend how much money you have that hasn't fallen through that hole in your pocket

your on the same track as me , the 500 looks a killer camera and a worthy upgrade from the 7100 i think

not sure on the 16-80 its got a pretty ordinary focus motor i believe for the amount they want for it , $600 and id buy it but for over $1000 no way (talking aust dollars) , pretty sure ill go with the 24-85 unless something comes out from photokina

probably look at the 200-500 or the 150-600 when i have the coin i think the d500 and 200-500 will be a pretty good combo for birding but the 70-300 will have to come first

still tossing up on a 18-140 or 18-200 as my walk around lens when i dont want to carry the bag of tricks.

I think if I had 4K burning a hole in my pocket, I would send it to you. I don't, however, so I think it would be nice for you to do that for me. :encouragement:

If I owned a D7100 I would keep it and buy a D750 so I'd have both a full frame and a crop camera in my bag. As you can see from my kit I am a firm believerin having both with the same button layout.

Leftover dough would go to a couple of fx Nikkors of choice....

I would get a d500 to pair with my 200-500vr.
I would likely get it with the 16-85 kit lens, battery grip and battery plus a card capable of utilising the d500s frame rate.

As a matter of interest have you tried the 16-80 kit lens?

I was VERY impressed with it when I tried it.
Its sharp, its quick and, through that viewfinder, a thing of beauty.

The D500 has the focusing motor built in which overrides any lens motor.
But yes it is dear - which f2.8 aren't?

I'd go for the D500.
I just recently made the move from the D7100 to the D500 and don't regret it one minute.
I already had the 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 together with my wide angle DX.
Ultimate camera if you want to stick to DX.
