Eye-Fi SD card

Just got a Eye-Fi 4GB SD card, it’s fantastic! I highly recommend it.
It cost about $50.00 and well worth it. I fire off any number of shots and it shows up on the computer in assigned file (my choice), smooth fast, and works great!

Been looking at one of these too. Can get one at Wal-Mart about the same price however reading at Amazon 133 reviews 14 of them are a one star out of five.

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Eye-Fi Connect X2 4 GB Class 6 SDHC Wireless Flash Memory Card EYE-FI-4CN

Glad you love it and it great but can you tell us more? Please keep us updated on the performance you have. I'm on the fence on this one. Have a little tabletop studio downstairs and hate having to run up and downstairs to check photos. I'm sure I could do this another way just afraid to set it up. Don't want to hook wires up to the camera and tripod to a laptop. I see tip hazards written all over that one. I don't care if I wind up on the floor, I just don't want to trip and put the camera on the floor.

Set your worries at ease, The Eye-fi SD card works fantastic, I love it!
I can be down in the basement (shot a lot down there) and my computer is upstairs.
By the time I get upstairs the pics are downloaded and waiting for me. I also get an E-mail letting me know that my pics have been successfully downloaded to the file I set up for it, so I just reformat the card (always have lots of space that way).
It was a 5 minute job to install and bang, it was working great, no problems at all.
I would highly recommend it. You can have a shoot and have your pics go straight to your laptop or I-pad in seconds. That way you can check your work on a big screen and not have to wait. It is really worth checking out, I don’t care want they say in the review, I think it works great! I think it may be the answer for you at a very low cost J.

Oh, I forgot to mention I am using my Eye-Fi SD card in my D7000 which has two SD card slots, I assigned the second card to back up (I see some of the reviews said they lost pics with the Eye-Fi card). I have only had the card for one day, but so far I am very happy with it. You will have to try it (you can always return it at Wal Mart).
So I would say you have nothing to lose by trying it. I don’t understand how a lot of the ppl. in the reviews had trouble installing their Eye-Fi! I am not exactly a computer wiz and I installed it in minutes and had no trouble at all. So far it is working fantastic.
But I leave nothing to chance and am backing up my pics with the other card. I will keep you posted on how it has been performing, but so far two thumbs way up…lol.

It would be something I would use on a D90 and a D3000 so we only have one slot in each camera and can't back up on the fly like the D7000. Although it is a class 6 card that is tempting at this point seeing how my current card on the D90 is only a class 3 and I understand you can use the card without the Wi- Fi. Interesting to see who else replies to this thread and if they use it. BTW my Wal-Mart is 5 mintues away and open till midnight. ALWAYS lol.

Here is something else I discovered tonight. I shot a few pics tonight while my computer was shut off. I then put my camera away (shut it off). I later turned my computer on to do something else and the program came on and the picture I had taken a few hours earlier downloaded…Wow!

Nice...
So, if you're shooting away from home, you can just set the camera down when you get back and the card will automatically "sync" when you boot up your computer ?? That's very convenient...I usually take the card in & out of the camera a zillion times to get the pics into my laptop. I wonder if there's any significant extra "draw" on the camera's battery using that wifi card.

I see no significant draw on the battery at all. As long as you have Wi-Fi in your home it seems to read from anywhere in the house. I did take a look at some of the poor reviews on the Eye-Fi and I found most were either unhappy with the setting up procedure (which I found very easy and I am no computer wiz…lol). Or the other was not being able to set up a facebook, or Flicker account, near of which interests me at all. I simply use it to transfer my photos from my camera to my computer and it works fantastic-10 out of 10 times so far. I can see it working great for someone doing a shoot and they want to see the results right away on the big screen on the spot, this it works great far. But as I said I can shoot anywhere in the house and bang there it is on my computer in the file I want it in. If I shoot and shut the camera down, or if the computer is off, the pictures download when the computer is turn on (the camera does not have to be on at the time). So, so far I think the Eye-fi is fantastic and I love it. In combination with my D7000 it is unbeatable…lol.
Take it for what its worth, but at well under $100.00, about $50.00 for a 4GB, you just can’t go wrong?? Oh, it takes only seconds to download your picture, so your camera is not on long enough to put any draw on your battery. I have only had the card for a couple days but so far I love it.

Great info I have searched around and there are many varietes, would you mind telling what make of card you got and from where you purchased, so that we can get off on the same foot as you, I did try eBay but some of the US sellers are charging USD26.00 for shipping, YES Just for the card, I'm not paying that,
thanks for your advise

Sure, the company is called "Eye-Fi" The one I got is a 4GB Class 6. I got it at Best Buy. But I hear in the U.S. you can get it at Wal Mart. But I have not seen it anywhere but Best Buy. I was told I was the first to buy one (they just got them in).
The cost is $59.00 plus tax here in Canada. So far I have used it for two days, firing off tons of shots and it has not failed me even once! I did not open up an account (Youtube, Facebook, or Flicker) I am not into sharing pics.....lol.
I want it to transfer pictures from my camera to my computer via Wi-Fi..... so far I love it. I can see so many uses for it, plus no more USB cable, or removing the SD card from the camera. Just turn it on and....Bang!

I just fired off about 50 frames, everyone showed up on my computer.
Also I forgot to mention, when you download you get an E mail from Eye-Fi (software)
Letting you know your download was successful. So it works very well. As to CF cards…??? Don’t know anyone using the Eye-Fi with CF adapter

Curt,
very nice of you to pass on the info, I am not into sharing pics either I no longer have a gallery on Nikonites or any where else, My need for this is the same as yours, My address is in BC and the closest best buy is 300 miles away so I will have to try over the net thank you very much

I guess what I meant was I am not into sharing personal Photos on Facebook, youtube, etc. I do post a fair amount in my galleries..lol. My wife said I have been storing pics. for years with no one seeing them. Posting pics. keeps my interest level high, as I do not do this for a living, but rather the love of creating. Good luck with getting a Wi-Fi card, I know you will not be disappointed with it.

Really sorry guys, I stand corrected The 4GB was not $59,00 plus tax at Best buy.
It was $49.00 plus tax, my mistakeJ.

Well heck, a little cheaper isn't bad :)

I like the concept a lot. Not sure how much I'd use it since my D90 has been on loan for a month or so now and I'm not sure when I'll get it back. Might work in my D700 with an adapter though.

Don't know, never used one of those card adapters. My D200 uses a CF card, sometimes I wish these companies would use a standard? I had a Canon G5 (used a CF card) but I upgraded to a G10 and it uses a SD card? So right now all my cameras use SD cards, except my D200. If you get a adapter and a Wi-Fi card let me know how it works :).

Ok went out and bought one. Couple of notes from me. Works fine, just right for my application, which is taking photos and having the ability to see them on a computer / lap top screen right away. Just like Curt I'm not using it to automatically upload to Facebook, Twitter, etc. So cannot comment on that.

Install easy, put the card reader (supplied) and card into a USB port on your computer and follow screen prompts. You will have to know your Wireless Network Name and password to set up the card.

IMPORTANT: After you install copy all files on the card to your hard drive. You may see a screen prompt that says you can Format this card, don't do this unless you have copied the files off the card, you will loss all the install files and will not be able to reinstall this card else where. (Found this out the hard way, had to go back to my Wal-Mart and argue the fact and got my card replaced)

This card (Eye-Fi 4GB), WILL NOT SUPORT RAW / NEF FILES for wireless transfers. If you want to shot and upload RAW files your going to have to upgrade to the Eye-Fi PRO 4GB (Amazon $119.00)

Works across two cameras. I took the card, which I set up in my D-90, and put it into my D-3000, took a photo, and the photo from the D-3000 uploaded just like it was in my D-90.

I thought I had read in the Eye-Fi Forums, you can only install one instance on one computer, and file sharing across your network with the Eye-Fi card was not possible. Can't find the thread but here's the link to the forums:

Eye-Fi Forums • Index page

CF to SD adapter questions, you might want to try this forum

Overall I'm happy with the card. For right now I will only use it around the house, when I go out I'll uses my standard card because I' shoot a lot of RAW files outside the house for possible HDR photos. Only disappointment I have is that this card will not support RAW files.

If there is any misinformation here please correct me, thanks.

I want to bump this thread to see if anyone has gotten the Eye-Fi 8GBpro X2. I am looking into it. It is supposed to support RAW and I am wondering if anyone has lost any photos or had any other problems using it. It's around $100.

I've had my Connect x2 for 7 mos now and never had a problem. I've even dropped it on our tile floor a couple of times.
I do find it a little slow uploading (6 to 7mb jpeg files on our broadband line), so I can't imagine how long it would take it to upload 24mb RAW files.
Otherwise a very convenient, easy to use little gadget :D
