How much is too much for a camera?

Seriously, it all boils down to one thing.

If the buyer thinks its too much, then it is.

Would I ever pay that kind of money for a camera?

HELL NO!!!

But i'm cheap. I am still using the Nikon D70 as my primary and have no intention of changing anytime soon. Lottery or no.

Just my 50 cents worth.

It is amazing what people will pay for a product. I am not sure how one could justify
that amount for a camera and what makes it worth that kind of money.
But I guess they say, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it…lol.

The way I look at it is...that's what they WANT for it. Doesn't necessarily mean that's what they're gonna GET for it! :) And like Pete, I'm cheap, too. I'll stick with my D200 until it stops working.....literally!
(My wife prefers to call me frugal ;) )

Very simply it is paying more than you can afford, or paying for facilities you will never use. Otherwise the sky is the limit.

However the image is created in the heart eye and brain, it is simply captured by the camera.

Buying an expensive (fill in the blank) will not make you a better (fill in the blank). Buy what you can reasonably afford and master it.

Yes,I agree it's not the camera, but rather the person using it..lol.
I think we all just like having the latest, great thing.
But it has to be in your budget.

Those S2s are amazing...and they are not 35mm...they're bigger! And if you think the body is a fair price check out what the lenses go for...hahaha

I paid around 350 for my camera body...and 750 for the finder! Talk about paying out the yingyang...

depends all on what the users budget is, im sure someone that has loads of money and a low amount of knowledge would buy the leica S2 just because of its price and name, if it was me i'd prefer a m9 with a .95 noctilux or even a phase one, mamiya ect.

funny i actually saw russian president Dmitry Medvedev use one of these on a cruise ship in a video, kind of funny when you see someone with such high priced equipment, but doesnt know how to actually hold a camera ;)

Just look at some of the medium format cameras. Some go for $40,000.00. Yes the images are better. But 20 times better? I don't think so. I've been wanting a beauty dish, but haven't gotten one yet still deciding. But some go for over $400.00. I'ts a bowl for crying out loud. I have salad bowls that are better built. Think about all the engineering that goes into producing an I-pad. All the technology. They sell for $3-400.00. Think about a simple light modifier. Sells for sometimes the same. Can't figure it out.

After seeing the title of this thread, I was going to say when you have to get a home loan just to make the down payment. Lol :p
Or when you standing at the crossroads to make a deal with the devil just to get the credit needed to buy it. Lol :p
Or how about when a loan to get it cost more to pay back than the national debt! Lol :p

OK I'm better now that I got that out of my system! :D
