Do you use your AF-Assist Luminator or turn it off?

Just wondering what most people do with their Auto Focus Assist Light. I have mine on, but when I try to take a picture of my Daughters, they see the light and hide their face.

Mine is off... though I have turned it on for some dim light shots to increase focus ability but then it is off again. I seldom need it.

Mine is off. People, pets and other living organisms find it annoying. You lose the element of surprise especially when you want a candid shot.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with Piperbarb, hard to get that "candid" shot when the light gives you away. I just turned mine off and I am experimenting with it in my Living room. I do notice that the camera is having a harder time focusing....not sure what it will be like in the daylight hours and outdoors.

I keep it on. Only turn it off if I'm somewhere that can't have flash photography, or if I have an external flash attached. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, so usually keep it on.

The white light on the camera stays off. The red one on the speedlight stays on, however it is actually only needed in dim places, not normally needed in a normally lighted room.

with the D600, the white light is very annoying and just too slow the way it responds. but I do use my flash red illuminator and/or I use the yongnuoa 622 AF assist beam and I thank go they are there.

this sunday I shot a wedding and was doing formals outside in almost complete darkness. even if I had the most perfect vision, I couldnt focus manually. the pictures came out amazing and thank god for that AF assist beam! almost no OOF pictures. im quite shocked!

My light stays on, but then I mostly do daylight photography, where it stays off. The only time I switched it off was when I was shooting at the concert.
