Nikon filed patent application 2013-57757 that will make changing camera lenses in the dark easier by illuminating the mount/lens. The implemented LED light source in the camera will transmit light to the mount and lens via an optical path located above the optical elements.

Another patent application (2013-58840) describes duplicated electronic mount contacts that will ensure communication between the lens and the body even if one of the contact sets is damaged/dirty.

Nikon patent 2013-54232 is for technology that instantly switches between an optical (OVF) and an electronic viewfinder (EVF) - something similar to the hybrid viewfinder inside the Fuji X100.

Seems interesting. Also an indicator that prices for glass are going to go up :D

Is it even "that difficult" to change glass blindly as is? Push, unscrew and pull, plop twist to seat, twist to lock and done.

you will wake up one day and say "what the heck happened, I used to be able to do this in the dark years ago when I didn't need glasses, had my own teeth and could walk without a walker" :) :)

Not like say, taking a rifle apart if you're in the military, the more years you do it, the deeper sleep you can do it all in?

Hasn't anyone ever used luminescent paint on switches to help do the same? My cars that didn't have illuminated switches were treated that way. It's amazing how long it works when your eyes adjust and it's really dark.

A small drop of such on the camera and lens line-up indications would help.

Meh. Another battery drain. Something else to have a recall on. They need to improve what they got now, instead of add more crap they could possible have go wrong.

Quick answer.....a 10-15 dollar hat with a couple LEDs in the bill. Its what I got and at the push of a button I get a lot of light. All hands free.
