Thank you. When my friend and I arrived around 9:30 or so there was not a cloud in the sky so we looked around for a few minutes and then went back to the car to get all our gear out and set up. Walked back to the spot we had picked and not a star ws was to be seen. Clouds had moved in the 15 minutes since we got there. Got some great cloud shots and a few other shots of some camp sites on a spit of land across from us with great reflections in the water. Then the clouds started to clear so we just waited. Normally the clouds at the bottom would have bothered me but I just darken them a bit in post and made it what I thought would be a good base for the Milky Way. After post I see a few things I can do better in shooting so will be going back to this spot to try again. I had to increase exposure a bit more than I liked in post so I think I will go back and increase my exposure by a stop and then 2 stops and see what it looks like. I always try to see what I can do better and at least this spot is not that far a drive.
