Horizon

Hi Everyone
I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have only had my Nikon for about a month and recently went on a road trip from Palm Springs to Las Vegas and took some photos along the way. I was aiming for an endless seam of road - zen like in a way I guess. I was inspired by Robert Franks highway photo in The Americans and had this in the back of my mind when I took it.

You must be having a problem uploading the photo. IT is not showing up. In the last set of icons above on the right. Click on the middle one. It says insert Image when you hover about it. Find the file on your computer and click upload. Also make sure you have re-sized the photo to a size that fits. I use 800 or 900 pixels. that usually works pretty well. You should be able to edit your post to include the photo.

Finally without further ado: the aforementioned photograph of the horizon!

On the road again.
Just can't wait to get on the road again.

Cool Shot. I don't think Virginia has any roads that are straight for half that distance.

Nice shot with allot of potential in post processing. It appears a bit close focused which does not help the distant objects such as the telephone poles. I like the composition, fantastic view!

Thanks Rick. Since this was one of my first serious shots I was quite happy with it. Can you expand a bit for me on what you mean by close focused? (I did intentionally focus on the road immediately in front of me so as to imbue the photo with texture). What would you do to improve it in post processing? Cheers Tim

I realy like the shot ! I would have used F16 on this particular shot to add a touch more Doff.
Adding contrast also adds to the apperance of sharpness. Here Ive saturated the colour a bit more
and added contrast to the foeground only. I have not sharpened the image at all.

As far as PP, Westmill has made some nice adjustments and I agree with the higher f stop. If you obtained your focusing goal than that's great. I think I might have focused a bit further out with the higher f stop an caught the closer poles in focus. This is a shot were you might want to experiment with many different focal points and exposures. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great capture, just offering a different perspective.
