Calibrating Autofocus on Sigma 150-600 Contemporary

Rather than make my other query overly complicated, I'll ask separately... Sigma 150-600 C on a Nikon D500. This combination spends the vast majority of it's time at 400mm or longer (90% probably at 600mm). And the focus distance is RARELY closer than 30-40 feet. Not 100% of the time, but...

    Configuring Sigma 150-600 C

I thought I'd see a bunch of topics in various places on this, but I'm finding little... I've had a Sigma 150-600 C on a Nikon D500 for a while, and it generally appears to work well. UNFORTUNATELY, after a disastrous shoot with Sandhill Cranes earlier this year (903 images, MAYBE a dozen...

Updating the firmware on the Yonquo 685 and 622n-TX

Bought a Yonquo 685 strobe, 622N-TX xmitter, and 622N-II transciever... In THEORY, they work fine. But, I SWEAR, I'm NEVER gonna update the firmware on ANY piece of photographic equipment again! Last year, updated the NIkon D810 and it spent 2 weeks at Nikon 'cause the update failed and...

Autofocus problems (my technique, NOT the camera)

Specifically: D500, Sigma 150-600 C @600mm. I'm photographing sandhill cranes, early morning with the sun behind me so I have good light... I'm shooting from a beanbag so the camera is very stable, though my panning is ALWAYS suspect... I'm getting a LOT (a HUGE percentage) of shots where...

Slow/slower/slowest card reader in a long time?

YEAH, I know this is a MINOR annoyance and the equivalent of complaining about the "cold peas", but I expect better from Lexar. Got the D500. Bought one of the 128GB LEXAR 2933X XQD cards. AND the special, super-duper, just for the XQD card, LEXAR card reader. Camera is good. Card is good...

Pointer to more detailed information than the manual has?

New D500. I'm one of those folks that actually reads manuals. But, in this case, the manual is NOT very explanatory. For example, "Customize Command Dials". In the manual, if you want to understand what this MEANS, it sends you to page 302. On which it says: Reverse rotation Change...

Post your Sigma 150-600mm Comtemprary Photos

Just for giggles, I put the Sigma 1.4X on the 150-600 C on the Nikon D500. On a monopod, I got surprisingly good results... Are that as good as my Nikon 500/f4? Not quite, but the VERY, VERY good for an $800 lens that's being pushed to 1260mm on just a monopod... These are at ISO 800 and...

Post your Sigma 150-600mm Comtemprary Photos

The D500 arrived Friday, so I stuck the 150-600 C on and went out for a shot session with the local geese... At 1/640 I can't stop the splashing motion, but at 1/1250 it stops the wing flapping pretty well. Everything was shot at ISO 400 and f8 or f9.

    Insects with non macro lenses

Probably not conventional, but used a Sigma 150-600 C, ISO 400, 1/320@f10 on a D810 body on a monopod. I like chasing butterflies and such with a long lens 'cause they don't spook and I get a different angle of view.

D500 Good, but at least on heavy sigh...

<commence ranting, whining, and complaining about something I admit is moderately trivial> I KNEW it was too good to be true... A replacement for a D300 with a good frame rate, and an OK resolution (lower than the D7200 but better than the D300), ESPECIALLY one that's touted as a D810 with a...

Can someone explain the whole no-flash-commander, flash control, wireless, radio...

Rather than hijacking the other thread asking about using a flash, I'll ask this separately... I've got a D500 on order but it won't be here for a few days. I'm more than a little confused about the whole "wireless flash control with optical or radio" thing... I've been controlling my SB-800...

    Nikon Repair Service

This is just going to be me complaining and generally whining about Nikon repair service, so if you're not in the mood, skip this topic......... Nikon f500/f4 AF-S... Good lens. Quite good lens... Until it wasn't. This lens lives in a Pelican Case, in a padded slot. It gets babied FAR MORE...

How to keep the viewfinder display (or at least the focus display) on after release

I THOUGHT this was a simple thing, but I'm either not doing something right, or it's not........... You're out in the woods with your "favorite" lens and extension tubes on your Nikon D810. And of course, the extension tubes, even though they SAY they couple perfectly to the autofocus...

Sigma 150-600 Contemporary on Nikon D7200

    I don't see an obvious 3rd-party-lens area, so I'll try here since it's on a D7200... I have a few-month-old D7200, and a few-years-old Sigma 50-500. The O/S doesn't work on the D7200, and it's going in for the firmware upgrade... BUT, I have a 4-HOUR-old sigma 150-600 Contemporary, and as...

When the firmware updates turns your D810 into a brick.......

Well, the good news (so far) is it SEEMS to be working fine... And as for Alf and his recipes:
