Actually it seems like a fair price, I paid over $400 for my SB800 and the good news for the later flashes (800 & 900) is they really hold their value well, used prices are almost as high as original retail.

Looks like a fine piece of equipment. Little too much for me right now. Actually, I am not in the market for a new flash. I will stay with my SB-800.

I just picked up an SB-910 and paid the $550 (technically, this was my X-Mas present). It is a wonderful unit. The user manual is a little daunting, but I look forward to getting to know it better as I go along.

I purchased it because it is the flagship of the Nikon lighting system and I am planing on buying two less expensive speedlights as part of my lighting set up. This is a very fancy piece of equipment and so far, I am taking some unbelievable pictures with it.

At a glance, the physical quality of the unit is superb and what I would expect from Nikon gear. At the moment, I am not disappointed with the purchase.

I did notice the stores were all low in inventory. The LCS rep told me that Nikon is still struggling with inventory and it could be a while before they restock. The one I picked up was the last unopened box in the store. I heard the same story in another camera store, so there may be some stock in this, I don't know for sure.
