So took the new light out for a bit of a trial over the weekend for 2 prewedding shoots..

Still trying to find the right balance and light modifier for the light - these were shot with a el-cheapo no name brand beauty dish I got off E-bay for about $30.

Was happy with the light strength, but need to learn / try to get better at the shadows and the like on the floor in some of the pics. I had to crop quite heavily in some to remove the shadows on the ground.

If I may ask a question? Would those beach shots not look better without any strobes being used? I don't know how dark it was , but I'm guessing by the setting sun still on the horizon, there was plenty of natural light.
I normally love your shots, but those last two beach shots are very heavy with shadows and not pleasing to my eyes.

@Blacktop The sun was still quite high off the horizon Peter, I actually underexposed to get all of the sky in nicely without blowing much out - this is the result if I didn't flash them.

Now yep, I could have probably blown out the sky a bit and had them 'recoverable' with lightroom by upping shadows / blacks etc, but I was looking for that quite contrasty bright subject, wonderful sunset look.... I think some of the shadows are because of my crap beauty dish. The modifier is equally, if not more important than the light itself in my opinion.
