Remote speedlight DIY

I wanted another way to use an off camera flash without a clamp or other means which may harm the surface.
I had a spare vacuum cup from my bicycle rack system and put together a flash and wireless transceiver that can mount to any flat surface. No marking and the system can hold up to 120 pounds.

Shown are a LumoPro LP160 and Pocketwizard PlusX

Parts List:

4½” SeaSucker vacuum cup - $47.99 seasucker.com (I already have a few as part of the bike rack system I use)
5" cold shoe extension bar with 1/4"-20 female socket - $17.00 Amazon.com
1/4" male to 1/4" male threaded screw adapter - various

I later found out similar solutions are on the market, but they aren't cheap.

That is a great idea. How does the suction cut you used mount to the flash adapter? Your is different from what I have seen but think about a standard flash mount.

It's a vacuum cup, not a suction cup actually. Much stronger and more reliable.

You just have to make sure you have a smooth surface to mount it on.
